Action Academy Mesilla Valley
Las Cruces, New Mexico / $10,000
Our MakerSpace will be a hands-on-center for learning - not just about a subject, but getting students involved directly with how science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEM) can be practically used. It will enable students of differing ages and abilities the opportunity to evolve motor skills, utilize their creativity and develop critical thinking skills. The theory students learn in classes gives way in our MakerSpace to reality and the development of important practical knowledge that students can use as they move on to college and the working world.

Communities In Schools of New Mexico
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000
New Mexico continues to rank among the worst states in our country for public education outcomes and graduation rates which are inextricably linked to the state's poverty level. CIS is a leading dropout prevention organization with a mission to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. CIS's full-time school-based site coordinators are mentors for students, allies for families, and resource hubs for schools. Our primary goal is to ensure that every student can stay in school, succeed academically, graduate to college/career, and lead a productive life.

Espanola Humane
Espanola, New Mexico / $20,000
Espanola Humane serves an impoverished area where the number of unwanted animals is distressingly high. In affluent communities, such as nearby Los Alamos, shelter intake is about one "unwanted animal" per sixty households; in our service area the number is approximately one in five. Our "Pet Amigos" outreach program helps to reduce the number of unwanted animals by encouraging free spay/neuter surgeries. Our primary goal is to complete 300 free spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats from Espanola and Chimayo. We expect that targeted sterilization will decrease the number of unwanted animals in these areas and at our shelter.

Gerard's House
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $5,000
For too many children and teenagers, the long-held misery of stifled grief due to a lost sibling or parent, has led to depression, acting out, habitual substance abuse, and even thoughts of suicide. Gerard's House works to prevent and address these unwanted outcomes for this generation of children and teenagers, as well as for many of their parents and caregivers. Gerard's House is the only agency in Northern New Mexico that has been providing age-appropriate grief support via support groups and individual sessions for children, by offering a safe place where children (and adults) can come and experience relief from much of their suffering while learning how to grieve in healthy ways.

Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $10,000
As we navigate these uncertain times during COVID-19, the demand for Kindred Spirits' services and programs has continued to dramatically rise, as have the challenges of meeting the animal welfare and community needs during the pandemic. KSAS continues to close a service-gap and act as a change agent by accepting elderly, needy animals from shelters in Santa Fe, Espanola, and Albuquerque as well as rescue groups throughout New Mexico. As space allows, we also accept elderly animals abandoned/lost during natural disasters. We continue to operate at full to over-capacity and have offered standing room only workshops on end-of-life care for senior dogs.
