Animal Protection of New Mexico
Albuquerque, New Mexico/$10,000
Animal Protection of New Mexico embarked on an ambitious Equine Protection Program and Equine Protection Fund in late 2009 to address the most pressing needs of thousands of horses in peril in New Mexico. Without the Fund’s programs and sanctuary spaces, horses are subjected to horrific transportation and unimaginable cruelty in the horse slaughter industry in Mexico. The Equine Protection Fund has already proven to be a cost-effective and pragmatic way for New Mexicans to ensure these magnificent creatures are always treated with dignity and respect.

Animal Welfare Coalition
Las Vegas, New Mexico/$4,800
Las Vegas, New Mexico and the surrounding area are suffering from an acute overpopulation of companion animals. There are not enough adoptive homes to take even the spayed animals. A relationship has been developed with Pueblo Pet Project, which takes a limited number of cats every month. Pueblo Pet Project has been generous with sending vaccines, tests and food, but there is often a gap between the tests and the number of animals that need to be tested and vaccinated. Funding will assist for vaccines, tests, food and boarding.

ARCA
Albuquerque, New Mexico/$5,000
The need being addressed is to provide caring qualified foster families and a transition to a permanent family for the most medically fragile children in our state - those with disabilities, and those who have been subjected to abuse or neglect and whose stories are often seen on the evening news. ARCA provides exceptionally fragile children from all over New Mexico and

Native American Tribes with immediate safety and professional case management. The program is year-round.

C.G. Jung Institute of Santa Fe
Santa Fe, New Mexico/$16,000

Over the most recent 21 years it has presented 275 community programs. This year’s theme is “Civilization in Transition.” The rich and varied 2011/2012 program year continues its expansion of “Psyche and Politics” program. These “P&P” presentations will include one panel with extended time for audience dialogue, three evening lectures, and a full and a half-day workshop. These seven events will be offered alongside five other dynamic talks, three-full-day workshops, and one half-day workshop, including a lecture and workshop in Albuquerque.

Common Bond NM Emergency Project
Albuquerque, New Mexico/$2,000
Common Bond was founded in 1981; The Emergency Project was founded in 1988. The Emergency Project provides last resort financial assistance to low-income New Mexicans living with HIV/AIDS. This includes rent assistance or paying a deposit for a new housing situation when a client is forced to move due to a hostile or dangerous environment. Emergency Project payments also allow clients to maintain utilities without interruption, or prevent further complications from HIV/AIDS by making medical and prescription co-payments for required medical regimens.

Court Appointed Special Advocates
Santa Fe, New Mexico/$12,000
The stewardship of a child’s rights rest primarily with family. But too many families are in crisis, and too many children are lost in the process. CASA’s mission is to recruit, train and support community volunteers who advocate on behalf of foster youth. Though CASA is currently meeting that goal, the severity and complexity of the cases demand a higher level of support and ongoing training. Nobody longs for a safe and loving family more that a child in foster care. CASA volunteers are empowered by the courts to help make this dream a reality.

IMPACT Personal Safety
Santa Fe, New Mexico/$5,000
IMPACT Personal Safety is a nonprofit organization that teaches people to prevent and defend themselves against verbal, physical, and sexual violence. By reducing the fear and impact of violence, we help to create a community where people live powerfully, experience freedom and pursue joy. Project PREPARE will provide 1,500 children and teens in the Santa Fe and Albuquerque areas with our original experiential personal safety and self-defense classes that address at least one aspect of violence prevention. Programs operate on a year-round basis.

Literacy Link
Silver City, New Mexico/$5,000
Literacy Link offers one-to-one tutoring; English as Second Language (ESL) classes; computer literacy instruction; literacy workshops and outreach activities; and distribution of books into homes. In addition, in the neighboring town of Bayard, LLL is working to offer weekly English as a Second Language (ESL) adult classes simultaneously with children’s activities and games that revolve around language development or simple mathematics. In March, LLL began a literacy program serving inmates in the grant County Detention Center, focusing on life skills, GED preparation, resume writing and one on one tutoring.

Many Mothers
Santa Fe, New Mexico/$5,000
Many Mothers was established as a non-profit in 2002 to address the problem that today’s new mothers often lack adequate support. Postpartum depression is on the rise and is inversely related to the amount of support a new mother has.
With the help of a marketing consultant, Many Mothers realized it uniqueness as a FREE alternative home-visiting service with volunteer care that focuses on the mothers’ needs. Many Mothers’ objective is to maintain its programs as a simple model that can be easily replicated by other communities. The immediate program goal is to help new mothers ‘get on their feet” and empower them with knowledge and skills for proactive parenting.
