|
Literacy Volunteers of Santa
Fe’s (LVSF) mission is to
provide free tutoring to adults
in reading, writing and speaking
English to strengthen our
community, families, and the
workforce. Our major objective
is to ensure that our existing
tutoring programs and support
services continue while
extending services to other
adults who are in great need. To
do this, our Basic Literacy
program will continue to serve
adults who read at a 6th grade
reading level and below, including those who
are unemployed, very low-income,
and/or new parents who

Albuquerque, New Mexico / $10,000 |
|
The Rio Grande Good Project’s
mission is to feed hungry New
Mexicans throughout the
Albuquerque metro area. Our
motto is “Empty Bellies. You Can
Fill Them.” As the second
largest food pantry in the city,
we’ve been filling empty bellies
for 25 years. Hunger is a
reality in our community. New
Mexico is number one nationally
for childhood hunger
and number two for all food
insecurity. 50% of our clients
are children under the age of
18. Hunger is a direct result of
poverty and our state has
“persistent poverty”, plus an
unemployment rate of 7%. |
