International Folk Art Market/
Santa Fe
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $25,000
Folk artists across the globe need markets to sustain their livelihoods, preserve their culture,
and support their families. At the same time, many children, youth and families in New Mexico are isolated and lack opportunities for interaction with global cultures. The Market addresses the challenge of an interconnected world by providing an innovative approach to increasing greater global and cultural misunderstanding through its partnerships and related educational programming. The Market accomplishes its goals through business and entrepreneurship training for participating folk artists, and promotes cultural exchange through education programs for the general public and outreach to underserved communities in northern New Mexico.

Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary

Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary (KSAS)
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $9,000
Many aged dogs, horses and other animals are abandoned in New Mexico each year. Elderly dogs are a large component of canines surrendered to shelters, and the first to be euthanized because the public considers them unadoptable. KSAS seeks to change cultural attitudes toward aging companion animals by providing a model for eldercare for shelters and offering educational programs that increase the pet guardian’s knowledge of the aging process, and provide hands-on tools for managing the aging process.

Literacy Link
Silver City, New Mexico / $5,000
The 2010 census showed 39.3% of the Silver City population spoke a language other than English at home – the national average is 17.9%. The National Adult Literacy Survey found that a parent’s education level is the number one determiner of a child’s education level. The goal is to raise literacy levels in Grant County through one-to-one tutoring; English as a Second Language classes; computer literacy instruction; literacy workshops and outreach activities; and distribution of over 10,000 books yearly into homes.

Many Mothers
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $8,000
With almost 1,700 babies born in Santa Fe each year, an increase need for assistance to families during critical early months after the birth or adoption of a baby, and the ongoing shortage of effective services available to families, the need for Many Mothers care and support is growing. Many Mothers is working diligently to increase the number of families served each year in order to ensure that no family is ever turned away, and to recruit and train the volunteers needed to ensure that we are able to meet that goal.

New Mexico School for the Arts (NMSA)
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $25,000
(Multiyear Grant)
New Mexico parents and educators have reported that youth with outstanding artistic gifts were not being adequately served, particularly in isolated and rural areas of the state. In response, NMSA was created to provide any New Mexico high school student who demonstrates exceptional promise, aptitude and passion for the arts the opportunity to work toward mastery in their chosen fields. This is achieved through pre-professional instruction in the performing and visual arts in combination with rigorous academics leading to a New Mexico diploma.
