There are 27 endangered species and 100 species of concern found in the longleaf pine ecosystem. Longleaf is dependent on periodic fire that occurs naturally every few years. The reintroduction of controlled fire is essential to promote a functioning longleaf forest and provides numerous benefits for the longleaf pine ecosystem. Two prescribed burning workshops will be presented to approximately 65 landowners. The goals are to develop lifelong students of fire and to educate land managers about longleaf-specific consideration when planning a prescribed burn.
