Cancer Services |
Baton Rouge, Louisiana / $15,000 |
|
Cancer Patients are under extreme duress during these trying times, and our project is focused on providing essential resources to those most vulnerable so they can continue receiving the support and cancer treatment they need. Cancer Services has provided resources to cancer patients in need for more than 60 years, however, with the social and economic disruptions caused by the pandemic, we are seeing increased demand for these services. The resources we provide have become critical for cancer patients to comply with treatment plans and improve their outcomes. The program will provide tangible items at no cost to cancer patients to offset the cost of cancer treatment. |

As the largest chimpanzee sanctuary in the world, Chimp Haven offers chimpanzees formerly used in biomedical research a life enjoyed with the companionship of other chimps, with all the dignity, care, and resources our expert staff can provide. Chimp Haven educates the public about chimps through our various education programs. However, due to the pandemic, we have had to pivot our strategy from traditional in-person education to a virtual learning and outreach programs specifically focused on early learners who are now learning from home. In addition, we plan to do outreach to local schools, educational agencies, and nonprofit organizations. |

The title of our current project is "COVID-19, Reopening Louisiana". Our agency is being asked to provide additional meals for 40 beds spaces, homeless street outreach services, homeless continuum-of-care case management activities, homeless housing services at a third facility in New Iberia, Louisiana, and transitional employment for the homes, and needed supplies. The regional Continuum of Care (Unity of Greater New Orleans) has requested that our agency provide them with 900 meals weekly in that the COVID-19 economy has forced many working class individuals into homelessness, increasing the need for food. |
