Animal Protection of New Mexico |
Albuquerque, New Mexico / $10,000
|
|
Animal Protection of New Mexico (APNM) has been challenging historic, systematic, and widespread animal cruelty in New Mexico since 1979. APNM's mission is to advocate the rights of animals by effecting systemic change, resulting in the humane treatment of all animals. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, plans that APNM had already put in place to fulfill our mission have had to be revised, and new plans and systems developed. APNM has also begun transitioning other program service delivery to virtual platforms. By late summer we plan to make the videos available on the online platform, "Teachable", so students, teachers, and parents who are eager for meaningful learning experiences have options for children confined in their homes for the foreseeable future. |

Over the last 40 years we have presented 389 community programs, demonstrating the community's heightening interest in the Institute's program offerings. A central tenant of Carl Jung's psychology recognizes that conflict, inner and outer, including Nature herself, is a primal force of life. When conflict appears, Jung counseled that stepping into it, reflecting on it, and finding meaning in it both individually and with others could provide a potential way to find new balance - much more than just solutions. Today, the sudden appearance of the Covid-19 pandemic we find ourselves overwhelmed and restricted in the use of in-person gathering and we will utilize Zoom meetings to connect with the community. |

In addition to our land preservation work, Santa Fe Conservation Trust (SFCT) has developed a dynamic trails program which has become increasingly important this year due to the record number of people using the trails due to COVID-19. People seek solace on the local trails but don't realize that SFCT is the entity that keeps the trails maintained for their safety and enjoyment. The City has no staff for trails maintenance, and SFCT is at risk of losing its ability to maintain the trails for the tens of thousands currently using them for pandemic relief. Despite the pandemic, SFCT has continued to provide trail services to our community. |
