Foundation for Woman's
Baton Rouge, Louisiana / $10,000
Foundation for Woman's was created in July 2014; previously it was a department of Women's Hospital which opened its doors in 1968. Woman's serves a large population of women with limited resources. Approximately 50% of babies born at Woman's are eligible for Medicaid, as for some women, basic safety needs for their newborn are a financial hardship. The Newborn Safety Program supports Woman's mission of improving the health of women and infants by providing critical assistance to families facing financial barriers to keeping their newborn safe once they leave the hospital.

Grace at the Green Light
New Orleans, Louisiana / $5,000
Most of the individuals we serve live in encampments that are set-up beneath the Oretha Castle Highway Bridge in downtown New Orleans. Grace at Green Light aims to provide a meal that includes enough nutritional value that, if it is the only meal our street homeless receive, it will be enough to keep them from going hungry all day. Our Meals with Love program serves a full, healthy breakfast to an average of 100 unsheltered homeless individuals daily, 365 days a year, at Living Witness Church in Central City. Our Executive Director is also on hand to provide case management and referrals to other programs.

Market Umbrella
New Orleans, Louisiana / $10,000
Nearly one quarter of our city's residents suffer from food insecurity, a condition marked by a lack of access to sufficient quantities of healthy, nourishing foods that is directly linked to a higher risk of chronic disease. Market Umbrella operates programs that provide direct benefit incentives such as Market Match and Market Mommas Club to increase the buying power of disadvantaged and food insecure shoppers. The goal of this project is to increase the purchasing power for low-income shoppers in the New Orleans community and increase their fresh fruit and vegetable consumption while at the same time supporting small, local farmers and vendors.

New Orleans Musicians' Assistance Foundation
New Orleans, Louisiana / $10,000
The pandemic shed further light on the overwhelming and ongoing obstacles to food access faced by this at-risk population, from economic hardship to health issues, to technological hurdles, to lack of transportation or neighborhood grocery options. Makin' Groceries provides weekly, home-delivered care packages containing fresh groceries, healthy prepared meals and lagniappe to a group of 100 + elderly and immunocompromised musicians, culture bearers, and their families to show gratitude and admiration for their profound influence on our local culture. Our goal: to ensure this group has access to healthy food, and feels safe, mentally healthy, and cared for.

Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response
Baton Rouge, Louisiana / $10,000
13% of all students experience rape or sexual assault while enrolled in a university. Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response (STAR) has seen a significant increase in survivors and their loved ones reaching out to STAR for support and legal assistance. This project will provide general operating support allowing our staff continue to respond to the increased need from survivors at our three branches in Alexandria, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. The number of individuals and families impacted by sexual violence in our community is staggering.

The YMCA of Greater New Orleans
Metairie, Louisiana / $5,000
The YMCA of Greater New Orleans (YGNO) is 169 years old. YMCA's Educational Services (YES) was founded in 1977. In January, it was revealed that the state was ranked 48th in educational outcomes. YGNO has combated the epidemic rates of illiteracy by providing YES! - it's free adult literacy program, to the city's lowest level readers. YES! provides over 400 adults each year with the math, reading, and free adult literacy classes, high school diploma classes, referral services, and digital literacy instruction. Cost-free services like YES! will continue to be essential to helping our vulnerable community members overcome illiteracy and unemployment, and will ultimately contribute to reduced rates of poverty, crime, and poor health outcomes.
