Young witnesses or victims of
horrific crimes, too traumatized
to give evidence or testimony to
adult investigators, often open
up when comforted by a friendly
dog. The courthouse dog serves
as a catalyst to help children
relax, feel safe, and more
effectively participate in the
judicial process. This can
provide essential evidence for
the prosecution of a crime, and
equally important, helps to
start the healing process for
the young victim. Training is
ongoing, involving ADW staff
trainers, volunteers, and youth. |

C.G. Jung Institute of
Santa Fe |
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $20,000 |
|
The C.G. Jung Institute of Santa
Fe presents Community Programs
because it believes that
communities in Northern New
Mexico become healthier when
citizens experience a connection
with their inner depths. The
proposed public programs assume
that significant changes in
behavior actually require change
in attitude that comes only when
people and communities have an
opportunity to reflect in depth
on the inner experiences and
soul/psych that are indeed
connected with – and go beyond
behavior. |

Canones Early Childhood
Center |
Canones, New
Mexico / $10,000 |
|
There is a cycle of poverty,
familiar to the people living in
the remote villages of northern
New Mexico. Throughout their
development, children in these
villages confront obstacles
associated with being of a
minority group and growing up in
an impoverished rural area with
a lack of support services
available to families. The
Canones Early Childhood Center
provides a family-centered early
educational experience for
preschool children giving them
an advantage when they enter
public school, and giving these
families hope in breaking the
cycle of poverty. |

In Luna County, hundreds of
healthy, adoptable dogs are
euthanized every year due to the
overpopulation of companion
animals. The most effective and
humane means of addressing this
problem is to make the high cost
of spay/neuter more affordable
to indigent pet owners in Luna
County. The discount program
will be promoted in the local
newspaper, on the radio, and
through DAG’s extensive Facebook
contacts. |
