Children's Grief Center of New Mexico
Albuquerque, New Mexico / $5,000
(Out-of-cycle grant)
The need for our unduplicated grief services in rural New Mexico is critical. Often, people who have suffered the death of a parent show increased delinquency, suicidal ideation, and preoccupation with issues of loss - compared to children from intact families or from families where the parents have divorced. Our camp provides children with age-appropriate coping skills that help them manage their grief. It is a place for children to be amongst others who understand what they are feeling and allows them to begin to process those emotions.

Coming Home Connection
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000
New Mexico has the 10th fastest growing aging population in the country. CHC is the only non-profit providing free and low cost in-home care to seniors including respite care for families caring for a loved one with dementia. We work collaboratively with other public agencies that cite our quality of care along with our responsiveness to urgent cases that no other agencies offer. At a time of increasing income and health inequality, this project is providing a vital service to seniors in need.

Communities In Schools of New Mexico
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000
Teachers and principals are not able to meet the complex needs of youth living in poverty. Students arrive hungry, poorly clothed, and often traumatized by family instability, but they are still expected to focus and learn. The Site Coordinator Program proactively meets the needs of students, whether it's transportation to and from school, clothing, food, or support coping with a traumatic experience. We support the whole child, ensuring they arrive at school ready to achieve academically.

Embudo Valley Tutoring Association
Dixon, New Mexico / $10,000
EVTA offers free tutoring during the school day, bypassing the hurdle of transportation and expense that many families in economically challenged rural communities face. This year EVTA is providing traditional one-on-one tutoring, comprehension and fluency focus groups, a math skill focus group, dyslexia therapy, applied math projects, homework help group, and the After School Program with Embudo Valley Library. More concrete methods and multi-sensory techniques are necessary for these students to integrate and retain learning.

Kindred Spirits Animal Sanctuary
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000
Since 2003, KSAS has provided eldercare-hospice for dogs, horses, and poultry on five rural acres south of Santa Fe. We lovingly provide end-of-life care for many senior dogs, horses, and poultry. The demand for KSAS's programs and services has grown faster than the organizationŐs administrative infrastructure. To maintain the high equality of animal care, long-term sustainability, and service to the community, a part-time Assistant Manager will be hired in January 2018. This is a permanent position to help offset and share responsibilities with the Executive Director.

Life Circle
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $15,000
Life Circle offers an Adult Day Service for Santa Fe and Santa Fe County. We will be partnering with Share Your Care of Albuquerque to provide a coordinated program of professional and compassionate services for adults in a community-based group setting. We will provide social and limited health services to adults who need supervised care outside the home during the day. We serve adults 18 years and older with disabilities making the service available to everyone regardless of their ability to pay.
