Espanola Humane
Espanola, New Mexico / $30,000
As a shelter with limited space, an enhanced foster program is critical to our life-saving abilities. Pets who do not kennel well with others or can't deal with the shelter environment often have no outlet and face euthanasia. Additional funds help with marketing, supplies, recruiting and training necessary to keep adoptable pets of the shelter and into loving homes until they can find permanent placement. Our goal is to increase our Live Release Rate to 90% and reduce unnecessary euthanasia.

Literacy Link-Leamos
Silver City, New Mexico / $5,000
The need is to raise literacy rates in Grant County, New Mexico residents. Learning English is critical to breaking the cycle of poverty. Low literacy means an inability to qualify for jobs and a struggle to function in society. Teachers report some children would have few or no books at home without our Let's Read project. The goal of the Let's Read project is to influence children to become lifetime readers by providing the supplemental education support of new, age-appropriate books in the home. We give ten to twelve books annually to the 2,000 elementary school children in the nine Title 1 public elementary schools in Grant County.
