Animal Protection New Mexico
Albuquerque, New Mexico / $15,000

Animal Protection New Mexico (APNM) was formed in 1979 by a group of community members dedicated to making a difference for New Mexico’s animals and the communities in which they live. We serve people and animals statewide. APNM develops policies, creates infrastructure, and implements services that protect animals and strengthens our communities. Our mission is to advocate the rights of animals by effecting systemic change, resulting in the humane treatment of all animals. For over 40 years, APNM has raised the visibility of issues facing New Mexico’s animals in pursuit of our mission.

Espanola Humane
Española, New Mexico / $30,000

The Española Valley Humane Society was founded in 1992 after assuming the responsibility of the city-run shelter. It offered adoption and expanded lifesaving animal services in Espanola Valley for the first time. We have been able to bring our Save Rate from 0% to near 90% during that time and hope to push it even higher with the help of our community and supports. More than 30% of our annual pet intake comes from families forced to give up their pets because of veterinary costs, animal overpopulation, housing or temporary financial issues.

Audubon New Mexico
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $10,000

Audubon New Mexico has provided science and nature education to Santa Fe’s children for 25 years through its hands-on, outdoor programs and the spectacular Randall Davey Audubon Center. Studies show that children spend less time outside than any time in history. Spending time in natural spaces provides a variety of benefits to children, including improved problem solving skills, emotional resilience, feeling calmer and more balanced, extended focus, and gross motor skills. We know that children’s lives are enriched when they spend time outdoors engaged in both structured and unstructured play.

Embudo Valley Tutoring Association
Dixon, New Mexico / $15,000

Embudo Valley Tutoring Association support k-12 students in northern New Mexico. EVTA realized that mentoring-a service to guide students in “learning how to learn” was an essential service alongside the academic skills support already offered. We can now match qualified tutors to students in need, even if they live at a distance from each other. With an eye to the future, we continue to build capacity, train tutors and work with our services sited to help NM students recover from the adverse impacts of the pandemic on their education.

Blue Skye Foundation
Santa Fe, New Mexico / $25,000
(Discretionary Grant)

Depression is currently the leading cause of disability in the world, and in the US, suicide is the second leading cause of death among young people. Rates of both major depression and suicidal ideation have skyrocketed recently in part due to the COVID19 pandemic. The Blue Skye Foundation supports the work of the Blue Sky Ketamine Clinic, Santa Fe. Success rates, as measured by a reduction in depression/anxiety scores, approach 75-80%. Our program has been in effect for 4 years and is fully operational.
